Afternoon All,
Looking for a little bit of advice r.e. a letter I received this month, from the "wonderful" people at Bristow and Sutor. The letter states I have an outstanding debt for council tax within an authority in which I used to live, however moved out of the area September 2019. Since then I moved to my current location in July 2020. The total amount they are charging me now is the initial debt plus 310 quid which I assume is the enforcement, plus the compliance fee.
As such, I had never received a final notice from the local authority, and it seems to have taken over a year now to be tracked down. On reading some of the legislation, it seems that the enforcement agent may be in the wrong as they have traced my new address, and proceeded to go full on with the fee charging without notifying the Council. I'm quite happy to pay off the debt, but not to pay the extortionate fees the enforcement agents are charging.
Where do I stand with this, and what would be the best course of action? Considering I did not receive a final notice or reminder, what should I do?

Re: Enforcement Agent Traced Address
This article gives you information on what to do when no notice is given.

If the date of the Notice of Enforcement is more than 12 mths old then this would apply:
https://stopthebailiffs.uk/debt-is-more ... s-old.html
B&S from my personal experience tend to get all the 'old' liability orders - or at least in my area that is the case.
However given you moved this would be more applicable if the council sent the final reminders to your old address:

As CT you have a legal obligation to pay. My advice would be to follow these directions to pay or make an offer to pay:

If you are in receipt of a state benefit the there are other avenues you may pursue too.
