BBC greed

Post by upnorth62 »

Im saddened to hear in this weeks news The BBC will now do a u turn and start asking for licence fee from over 75s

My mother is 81 and she does not get out much days and the TV is a good life line for her .
However after a bit of digging around , am I right in thinking you only need a licence for watching /and or recording live tv . if this is so,how do the BBC define live ?
All thoughts appreciated .

If you watch Channel 4 thru an app then you must pay the BBC because its broadcast television.

I'm based in the Philippines and BBC iPlayer asks for my credit card details because it carrys broadcast TV. Yet we get BBC Asia world service, BBC News and BBC Prime for free with a free cable TV package. Nobody here pays a dime for it, not even Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore viewers pay. It's the license fee payers and they dont even get Prime or World Service.

According to a Hong Kong newspaper just a few days ago, there is a decline in TV licence upake because 'millenials' cast Netlix, YouTube etc to their TV, or use social media. That prompted the Beeb to recoup the shortfall by hitting loyal elderly viewers not adapted to the internet for their news and entertainment.

They closed that loophole - last year I think it was. It now covers catch-up services such as iplayer.

If you only watch platforms such as Netflix, Prime TV etc, then you don't need a licence.

If your mum gets pension credit then she'll still be exempt. June 21st is meant to be a day of protest with urged to boycott all BBC services. All a load of old crap anyway.

Boycotting services for one day wont change anything. It must be for 12 months.

I agree with Schedule. For example, I've 'boycotted' council tax since 2014.
